Implementation of an Intelligent Transportation System in the City of Cherepovets

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

Detect road traffic accidents on sections of the road network, instances of lane marking violations, and pedestrians crossing outside designated crosswalks, with automated notifications sent to the Urban Traffic Management Center operator
Obtain reliable traffic flow data for further analysis and the development of new traffic management schemes

WORK COMPLETED:

In 2023, the Cherepovets City Administration acquired the TrafficData software suite.
The following deliveries were made:

80 Macro licenses
24 TrafficData vehicle detectors

Currently, traffic flow data is accurately determined by direction and vehicle type. All movement directions on the studied section are processed simultaneously, significantly reducing labor costs compared to manual traffic counting.

RESULTS:

The implementation of TrafficData software enabled the city to:

Develop a new traffic management scheme based on the collected data
Optimize the traffic light operation modes at the intersection of Sheksninsky Avenue and Rybinskaya Street
Launch traffic flow on the newly constructed section of Sheksninsky Avenue immediately upon commissioning — in the correct mode, without congestion, and ensuring an optimal level of road safety
